
Jennifer Carlson

Jennifer Carlson, Ph.D., CEM®, LCSW, is a leading New England emergency management expert, educator, and author with over 20 years of experience. She has deployed to major disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and the Boston Marathon bombing, serving in leadership and training roles with the American Red Cross, FEMA, and the State of Massachusetts. Dr. Carlson is a Certified Emergency Manager and Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
She has taught emergency management and homeland security courses and workshops at institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Currently, she serves as a professor of emergency management at Anna Maria College, where she also serves as the campus-wide Co-Director of the Honors Program.
She is the author of multiple journal articles and books, including Exploring the Professionalization of Emergency [Disaster] Management. Dr. Carlson is dedicated to advancing the field through research on the professionalization of emergency management, as well as through teaching, writing, and service on professional boards.
